महाराष्ट्रामध्ये होत असलेल्या या अत्यंत महत्त्वाच्या परिवर्तनाचे एक प्रतिनिधी म्हणून देखील श्री. बोराटे यांच्या या आत्मचरित्राला विशेष महता आहे. श्री. बोराटे हे आपल्या छोटया उद्योगधंद्याकडे वळले हे त्यांचे एक खास वेगळेपण दिसून येईल. १९५५ ते ६० नंतर यशवंतराव चव्हाण, वसंतरावदादा पाटील, धनंजयराव गाडगीळ यांच्या प्रयत्नामुळे महाराष्ट्रामध्ये सहकारी साखर कारखाना, सहकारी बैंक सहकारी तत्वावर चालणारे खरेदी-विक्री संघ इत्यादी क्षेत्रांची झपाट्याने वाढ झाली. सहकारी साखर कारखाने व सहकारी बँका या सारख्या उपक्रमांतून ग्रामीण भागांतून छोटे छोटे उद्योगधंदे, व्यापार, बँका यांकडे वळणारा एक नवा वर्ग निर्माण झाला. सहकारी साखर कारखाने, सहकारी बँका यांतून ग्रामीण भागातील तरुणांना प्रशिक्षण मिळाले त्याचप्रमाणे आपण देखील छोटे-मोठे कारखाने चालवू शकू असा नवा आत्मविश्वास ग्रामीण भागातील तरुणांना वाटू लागला. सहकारी चळवळ हेच नव्या तरूण उद्योजकांचे प्रेरणास्थान होते, परंतु श्री. बोराटे यांचे वैशिष्ट्य असे की, ते सहकारी चळवळीमधून पुढे न येता स्वतंत्रपणे खाजगी तत्वावर छोटा उद्योगधंदा सुरू करून, त्यांनी अल्पकाळात उत्तम प्रगती केली व नेत्रदीपक यश मिळविले.
